SNL‘s 40th anniversary special seemingly attracted every famous person on the North American continent into one location, like some kind of giant famous-person bug zapper. Almost everyone in the live audience was a celebrity, not counting the dozens of people onstage over the three-and-a-half hour special, so once it finished they did pretty much what you’d expect a large collection of wealthy, famous people in New York to do: throw a big-ass party.

Jimmy Fallon, who hangs out with celebrities as a career, inadvertently found himself at the centre of a famous-person afterparty tornado, and spent a good ten minutes on The Tonight Show telling the only tolerable “oh man, this party I went to last night was crazy” story you’ve ever heard. Paul McCartney jamming with Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus singing about her dead goldfish, Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld just hanging out — sounded like a pretty good night out.

Just to prove he didn’t make the entire thing up, here are some blurry Instagram videos of the whole thing, taken by DJ Cassidy:

And Bill Murray serenely playing the tambourine, as if that weren’t enough.
