Parquet Courts’ Leaked Backstage Rider Is A Literal Work Of Art
Parquet Courts have stepped up their rider game once again – and this time it’s a literal work of goddamn art.
Leaked to FasterLouder ahead of their Melbourne show tonight, the band’s hospitality plot doesn’t feature anything ridiculous like a “parrot that is trained to say your name” (hello Diplo!), or a “cute bulldog, pug or Pomeranian” (g’day Grimes!). Rather, frontman Andrew Savage has drawn a particularly detailed still life of their backstage meal table featuring:
– Some “beautiful” and “inspiring” flowers;
– A tub of “fresh clean ice (for mixing)”;
– A pack of American Spirit yellows (ie. the “colour of a white man’s heart”);and
– A sugar-free Red Bull with the label obscured in “accordance with our shame”.

It’s certainly a step up from their 2015 Australian tour, which featured a play on the typical stage plot, substituting instruments and AV equipment for “a spread of snacks fit to satisfy fatigued professional musicians”.
The band were apparently “delighted” when organisers of Victoria’s Golden Plains actually fulfilled that rider to the letter.
One of the highlights of last week’s Falls Festival, Parquet Courts have one show left on their Australian tour. They’ll play Shadow Electric’s new event series, “Shimmerlands”, at the University of Melbourne’s Parkville Campus tonight. Other acts on the bill include Tyrannamen, Ausmuteants and Nicky Crane. Tickets and more details here.
Parquet Courts’ most recent album, Human Performance, was named in FasterLouder’s list of the top 50 albums of 2016.
