The New ‘Ghostbusters’ Trailer Mentions Race And Gender; Let’s All Get Off The Internet

The second full trailer to the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot dropped overnight and it looks pretty fun! Shying away from some of the focus on character comedy in the first clip, this new look amps up the action and delivers a bunch more ghosts including Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. We also have a better look at Chris Hemsworth as Kevin — the Ghostbusters’ beautifully dumb assistant who gets inhabited by a ghost.

However, if you’re a sad internet bro looking for something to get angry about, you may have only noticed one thing about the clip: Leslie Jones dares to mention race and gender. After jumping off a stage to chase a ghost and landing up on the floor after no one caught her to crowdsurf, Jones yells “I don’t know if that was a race thing or a lady thing, but I’m mad as hell”.

Judging by the comments flying around from all dark corners of the internet, the argument that “it’s not because they’re ladies; it’s because they’re bad!” is officially redundant.

Those following news of the film’s release because they’d quite like to watch it rather than hang shit on it might notice that this joke isn’t even a new one. It featured in a re-cut of the original trailer way back in March, but never received as much coverage as the first clip. That first trailer has actually been in the news again recently after becoming the “most hated in YouTube history”. This is likely a big reason why Sony hasn’t uploaded the new clip to the platform yet, instead letting it premiere on social media.

Trolls definitely stay clear of social media, right? … Today is a great day to log off.
