Meryl Streep Is Gonna Star In ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 And We Are Screaming
We know who she'll be playing, too.
Thought Big Little Lies couldn’t get any better? Hold that thought, because Meryl Streep has just signed on to star in season two, proving that you really can improve on perfection.
Fresh off the back of her 21st (!!) Oscar nomination just yesterday, Streep will be joining Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman in one of the most hectic casts of all time. She’ll be playing Mary Louise Wright, mother of the abusive Perry Wright, played by Alexander Skarsgard.
We don’t know much more about her character so far, but if you’ve finished season one (no spoilers here), you might be able to make some educated guesses. That said, the plot of season two continues on beyond the end of the novel season one was adapted from, so we’re in uncharted territory now — anything could happen.
Beyond thrilled to have the one, the only, Meryl Streep joining the cast of #BLL for season 2. Get ready for more wine, secrets, and Big Little Lies. Monterey better watch out!!! pic.twitter.com/VWYcUl7rzd

Big Little Lies showrunner David E. Kelley has previously said that adding Streep to the show was one of his “dream casting goals” (his other goal was to cast Tom Hanks, which hasn’t happened yet, but who knows?).
So far, only Streep, Kidman and Witherspoon are confirmed to return to the show, but even just those three give us confidence that it’s going to be an amazing second season. Sadly, we’re gonna have to wait until 2019 to see it, but the wait will be worth it.
