“Did you see Stella?”

That was the question we heard asked over and over at this year’s Bigsound. Of all the buzz acts showcasing at the annual music conference — and between Amyl and The Sniffers, Miss Blanks, Confidence Man, Hatchie, Odette and Jess Locke, there were a lot — it was Stella Donnelly that no one could stop talking about, and everyone adored.

The 25-year-old Perth singer-songwriter was such a hit at Bigsound that she even picked up the inaugural Levi’s Music Prize, an award judged by a panel of local and international music names and open to all Bigsound acts. As well as the glory, Stella will take home a $25,000 prize.

It’s a big win for an artist who only put out her debut solo EP, the delightfully-titled Thrush Metal, in April. (Stella had, however, already established herself as one-to-watch playing in Belle Rapids as well as BOAT SHOW, another of Bigsound’s most talked-about acts.)

The good news kept coming this morning, when triple j announced they’d added her single ‘Mechanical Bull’ to rotation. All of which means there’s no better time to get acquainted with Stella Donnelly — so listen to the song you’re about to hear everywhere below. It’s a beauty.
