Is Matt LeBlanc’s New Show ‘Man With A Plan’ Secretly About Serial Killers? An Investigation

Everyone is talking about the new Gilmore Girls trailer today and I get it (why is Emily Gilmore wearing jeans!) but frankly, there is something much more important happening in television news.

This week, Matt LeBlanc premiered a new show. Since Friends ended, Matt LeBlanc has only been in three TV shows (one of them being Joey), so it’s safe to say that he wants this new TV show to stick. This show is called, Man With A Plan.

I am 100 percent certain that this is a show masquerading as a family comedy, but is in actual fact a chilling and blood-curdling horror. Let’s look at the evidence:

The Tagline. 

The tagline for Matt LeBlanc’s new show is “I’m Daddy Fun-Times!”. First of all, this makes absolutely no sense. What is a “daddy fun-times”? I cannot even imagine a possible family-friendly context where this makes sense, nor do I wish to.

Secondly, “I’m Daddy Fun-Times!” sounds like something a serial killer would say before maiming you with a chainsaw. It’s no “Here’s Johnny!”or “What’s your favourite scary movie?” but this is network TV, after all. In this TV show, Matt Le Blanc is obviously playing a serial killer.

The Synopsis. 

On Wikipedia, the plot synopsis for Man With A Plan is as follows: “A father learns parenting is harder than he thought, after his wife goes back to work which causes him to be a stay-at-home dad”. Try for a second, to swallow your revulsion that in 2016 there are still shows being made where the central idea is: ‘A man has to stay at home with his young!?’. A man is not a woman! What a madcap, crazy ride Man With A Plan is already turning out to be.

But tell me, doesn’t that synopsis feel a little incomplete, like a few words have been cut from the end of the sentence? Perhaps, “A father learns parenting is harder than he thought, after his wife goes back to work which causes him to be a stay-at-home dad… and start cooking meth?” Or “A father learns parenting is harder than he thought, after his wife goes back to work which causes him to be a stay-at-home dad… and run his crime empire remotely?”

OR PERHAPS: “A father learns parenting is harder than he thought, after his wife goes back to work which causes him to be a stay-at-home dad… AND STARTS STALKING THEN MURDERING ALL THE BABYSITTERS IN THE AREA”?

The Image.

Why does this promotional image which presumably meant to convey some sort of Home Improvement, everyman vibe, seem so menacing? Who is he pointing to? Is he perhaps signalling out his next victim? IS IT ME?

The Press. 

In all the talk show spots Matt LeBlanc has done to promote the show — of which there have been many — Matt LeBlanc keeps using the same vague descriptors to explain his role. “I’m a fish out of water!” he says to Entertainment Tonight, CBS, The Talk and Kelly Live. “I’m a bull in a china shop!”

These empty statements are all well and good,  but there is a simmering threat behind all of Matt LeBlanc’s interviews. “I’m an un-PC dad in a PC world,” he says simply, while Kelly Ripa gasps and claps in glee.

What is Matt LeBlanc trying to tell us? Is he leaving us clues, little talk show breadcrumbs, so that we may decipher that Man With A Plan is less of a sitcom and more a prestige drama about the tragic affect of stifling gender roles, a dramatic interpretation of the decay of one mad man’s psyche and the explosive repercussion of a “stay-at-home dad” pushed too far?

Is Man With A Plan a dizzying look at masculinity, morality and the paper-thin sinew that binds us as humans? HOW MANY ROBOTS ARE IN MAN WITH A PLAN?
