A tragic tale of sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll, and curly mullets.

Just last week, the Seven Network unveiled their big 2014 television schedule, an eclectic mix of reality juggernauts like My Kitchen Rules and a local version of the relationship ruiner, The Amazing Race; new international series like Jeff Garlin’s (Curb Your Enthusiasm) sitcom The Goldbergs and the Brad Pitt-produced Resurrection; and some new makeover thing called Bringing Sexy Back, which we’ll totally watch but feel bad about ourselves as we do so.

But perhaps the network’s most anticipated production is its upcoming mini series on legendary Aussie rockers, INXS. Seven’s made a big deal of the fact that INXS. Never Tear Us Apart has been produced with the full co-operation of the band and its manager CM Murphy, and it’s being touted as the “extraordinary, uncensored story of the most successful band of the ’80s” (who weren’t Milli Vanilli).

This morning, the network released a sneak peek of the series, which stars Luke Arnold (Winners & Losers) as Michael Hutchence, Hugh Sheridan (Packed To The Rafters) as bass player Garry Gary Beers, Alex Williams (Underground: The Julian Assange Story) as sax man Kirk Pengilly, and last year’s X Factor winner Samantha Jade as Hutchence’s most famous lover, Kylie Minogue.

Judging from the clip, it seems to touch on a lot of the more gossip-y aspects of Hutchence’s life, including his run-ins with the media, some teary backstage debauchery and in-studio beer-throwing (what a waste!), and his tumultuous relationships with his bandmates and the women in his life (is that supermodel Helena Christensen giving him the violent beatdown?).

Also, they’ve clearly taken their time in getting everyone’s shitty ’80s hair right so that’s commendable, I guess. The series will air on Seven sometime in 2014.
