Proving that people will band together for a common cause if it is important enough, an Ohio man’s Kickstarter campaign to scrounge $10 for potato salad ingredients has raised an impressive $5,500 to date.

“Basically I’m just making potato salad. I haven’t decided what kind yet”, begins Zack Brown’s modest campaign.

At the $100 mark CNET came onboard, with their tongue-in-cheek report picked up by US news outlet ABC (who open their piece by explaining Kickstarter).

The popularity of his campaign has ‘forced’ Brown to include additional donor tiers, such as the $25 option, which comes with a themed hat.

Even with the campaign’s early success (there are still 26 days left to back this project), Brown is aware of the potential pitfalls, spelling them out clearly under the ‘Risks and Challenges’ section on his campaign page.

“It might not be that good. It’s my first potato salad.”
