Looks Like Even Cosmo Wishes Cosmo Hadn’t Nominated Sonia Kruger For Cosmo Woman Of The Year

I'm starting to have some serious reservations about the integrity of these awards.

A few months back, Cosmopolitan found itself in a pretty sticky situation after nominating Today host Sonia Kruger for TV Presenter of the Year less than a fortnight after she suggested that Australia should consider a ban on Muslim immigration.

To be fair, the list of very white, very blonde nominations was locked in before Kruger made her asinine remarks. Nevertheless, it wasn’t a great look for the iconic women’s magazine, and their readers let them know about it in no uncertain terms.

Now, with the awards ceremony just a few days away, the team at Cosmo are seeking to distance themselves from the unfortunate nomination, with a spokesperson telling Mumbrella that “the political, professional or personal views of any nominee are in no way endorsed or supported by Cosmopolitan.”

This applies to remarks made by Ms Kruger,” they added, just to make things absolutely crystal clear. “Our readers will decide which of these nominees deserves to win.”

Between this and the time that wellness blogger con artist Belle Gibson won for her use of social media, I’m beginning to have some pretty serious doubts about how much faith we can even put in these awards. Is it possible that Cosmo isn’t the beacon of integrity we’ve all been led to believe? Is that something we’re willing to accept?

You can cast your vote in the Fun Fearless Female Woman of the Year Awards until the ballot closes at 11:59pm on Monday October 3. Use it wisely.
