Hint: it definitely is.

The Lifetime Channel in the US is notorious for its ridiculously cliched dramatic productions. Broadly speaking, the plot of each piece of original programming can be lumped into the following categories: Look At This Teenager Ruining Their Life With Drugs/Sex/Generic Youth Issue, Everyone Has Many Emotions At Christmas Time, and Here’s What That Steamy Affair Would Have Looked Like If You’d Just Said To Hell With It All And Gone Home With That 24-Year-Old Bartender.

Now, the network’s released the trailer for its latest TV movie, A Deadly Adoption, which premieres later this week. It features a wholesome middle-class couple living in classic suburbia who kindly house their soon-to-be adopted child’s young mother. Things soon take a dark turn when the woman seduces the husband, threatens the wife, and everyone gets a gun for some reason. It’s all very serious and one of the main characters is also a well-known actress from 90210 because of course she is.

But it’s probably also important to note the other two main characters are played by Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell. Ferrell also acts as executive producer and the whole thing’s backed by his production company which made Anchorman, Stepbrothers and Eastbound and Down. The film’s also written by Andrew Steele whose previously worked with SNL and The Jon Stewart Show; it’s directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg whose made shorts for Funny Or Die; and the news was first “leaked” on April Fools Day before being “pulled” by Ferrell, before this surprisingly serious trailer was released.

This is some serious dedication to fucking with people.

A Deadly Adoption will premiere in the US on June 20 and I cannot wait.
