Kristen Schaal Has Made A Shot-For-Shot Re-Make Of Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn’ For Some Incredible Reason

It's a music video for Mikal Cronin. It's not clear if he asked her to do this.

Mikal Cronin is an American musician who’s known best for his infectious indie garage rock and his work as the bassist for Ty Segall. With his third album released yesterday, he’s now started on a busy national tour and launched into a media circuit which has even included a performance on Conan. It’s all very impressive.

But today some of this A-grade indie rock cred may have been slightly tarnished. The video for his album’s first single ‘Turn Around’ was released online overnight and it is literally a shot-for-shot re-make of Natalie Imbruglia’s eternal ’90s feel-fest ‘Torn’ (with a small exception of the point where the Kool-Aid man breaks down the wall only to get beaten to death with a two-by-four).

Essentially, this is what happens when you entrust comedians Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal to make a video for you. The collaboration is part of a project from Jash — a site made by Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Tim and Eric, and Reggie Watts which you should definitely check out — which challenges comedians and musicians to team up and create videos for under $5,000. It’s also the reason why this video of Thundercat shooting actual cats with laser beams from his eyes exists.

If you have zero interest in any of that and clicked on this to get your obligatory fill of ’90s nostalgia, here’s the original. Mute the top video, pop this on as a soundtrack, and let Kristen Schaal’s perfect Imbruglia pout ease you into the day.
