Katy Perry Managed To Work A Dank Australian Meme Into Her ‘Swish Swish’ Video

US pop star Katy Perry released the official video for her track ‘Swish Swish’ last night, and to put it bluntly: it’s a flaming hot mess.

The video centres around Katy “Kobe” Perry and her hopeless team of ragtag basketball players, which include Stranger Things kid Gaten Matarazzo, Glee’s Jenna Ushkowitz, model Dexter Mayfield, and for some reason that internet Backpack Kid that Perry seems to be obsessed with.

On paper, it doesn’t actually sound that bad. But evidently Perry and director Dave Meyers had “THROW EVERYTHING AND ALSO THE KITCHEN SINK” written across the whiteboard in their brainstorm sessions, because the resulting video is crammed full of so many weird ideas and references to tired beefs that it all becomes a bit overblown.

Hell, she even found time to insert one of the dankest memes going around: Bag Raiders’ ‘Shooting Stars’. If you’re not familiar, the Aussie duo’s 2009 track found a new life earlier this year by somehow becoming the internet’s song meme of choice.
