Geoff Dyer once wrote that travel, when ideal, is about feeling at home anywhere, everywhere. So what better way to feel at home in the vast anywhere and everywhere of the United States than to find a bus, strip it, kit it out, paint it, and create your very own moveable home?

In this interactive exclusive, presented in partnership with Contiki, Junkee contributor Sam Cooney tracked the journey of six young Australians who left their homes, jobs and loved ones to spend three months and thousands of dollars refitting a classic yellow school bus. They named it The Spruce Moose, drove it around America, and came back with one incredible story.
