Jon Hamm Could Be Playing Archer In A Live-Action Adaptation

Really, who else could they possibly cast?

Hollywood doesn’t have the best track record at adapting well-loved animation into live-action films. Sure they can pump out decent superhero movies every couple of hours but it tends to go catastrophically awry as soon as they attempt a comedy.

Remember this stinking pile of rubble?

But if you were going to make a live-action Archer movie there’s no one you could cast in the lead other than everyone’s favourite square-jawed ad guy Jon Hamm. Hamm has proved again and again that nobody comes close to achieving the levels of suave assholery you’d need to play Sterling Archer on screen.

One of Archer’s executive producers Matt Thompson has said that if a live-action movie does go ahead (and it just might after the final series has wrapped up), then Hamm is front-runner for the role. Which makes even more sense when you consider Archer’s aesthetic was apparently inspired by Mad Men.

The obvious problem is that Hamm looks like this:

And H. Jon Benjamin, the man responsible for making Sterling Archer sound like the deeply horrible and compelling human being that he is, doesn’t exactly fill out a tux in the same way:

It’ll take some serious lip-syncing skill and some more genius casting decisions to pull this off. But, if they do, we’ll all be one step closer to making those sexual fantasies (that we may or may not be having) about Archer’s entire animated cast feel more real.
