"Hey, remember that time you got polio? No, you don't, because your parents got you f*cking vaccinated."

The issue of vaccination in the US has officially reached fever pitch and everyone’s become a little frustrated.

Fifteen years after the national Centre for Disease Control declared the disease officially eliminated, the country has seen a record number of measles cases; most of which could be traced back to a single trip to Disneyland. And, in a six-year period which saw the contraction of preventable diseases drop by 57 percent globally, the US saw a phenomenal 600 percent increase.

Though vaccination has been repeatedly endorsed by World Health Organisation, the CDC and the US Department of Health, rates of immunisation have now dropped below 90 percent in 17 US states. This is a number made especially worrying by the fact that between 90-95 percent of a community must be vaccinated to achieve what is called “herd immunity” — a single decision to not vaccinate a child very quickly translates a broader issue of public health.

Because of this, it’s become a hot political issue in the lead up to the 2016 election with some advocating for vaccinations to become mandatory and others arguing for a parent’s right to object.

Now, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel has entered the debate. His thoughts: you should listen to some fucking doctors.

“Hey, remember that time you got polio? No, you don’t, because your parents got you fucking vaccinated.”

Truth.

PS: Apologies if you also haven’t seen the end of Breaking Bad. Unless you are also a doctor who’s also spent the past 18 months shooting PSAs I have no sympathy for you.
