Jimmy Fallon, the young SNL nerd who made good, made his big debut on NBC’s Tonight Show overnight, becoming the late night institution’s sixth ever host — following Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, and, uh, Jay Leno again — and sending the whole thing back to Noo Yawk for the first time since 1972.

And boy, did he make it a special occasion. First, semi-cool Scientologist Will Smith turned up in denim overalls for an impromptu ‘Evolution Of Dance’ segment, where he did ‘The Carlton’ and made ’90s kids happy.

And then, an endless queue of A-listers dropped in to pay their debts in betting that Fallon would never become the show’s host, including Robert De Niro, Tina Fey, New York Jets football icon Joe Namath, former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani, Mariah Carey, Tracey Morgan, Joan Rivers, Kim Kardashian, Seth Rogen, LINDSAY FUCKIN’ LOHAN, Sarah Jessica Parker, Mike Tyson, Lady Gaga, and Fallon’s new 11.30pm competition, Stephen Colbert.

I’m not great at maths, but that’s about $1400. Somewhere, Jay Leno is cursing his TV.
