It’s the review that lives rent-free in the mind of every single journalist: Pitchfork’s notorious 0.0 rating of Jet’s Shine On.

More specifically, it was the fact that instead of a written review, they simply uploaded a video of a monkey peeing in its own mouth — as fitting a descriptor as any for that album. The review has taken on a mythical quality since it was published in 2006 — as an aside, Pitchfork’s review of the band’s debut Get Born is also very, very much worth your time — and seemingly every couple of months it will do the rounds online, accompanied by grizzled journos lamenting the good ol’ days.

Yesterday, Pitchfork shared a screenshot of the infamous review to their Instagram page, with the caption: “Sometimes there are no words.”

This time though, it kicked off a bit of a blue. Indie hero Phoebe Bridgers dropped by the post to comment “I think about this once a day”, only to be bizarrely blasted by Jet drummer Chris Cester.

“I think I saw you on SNL recently it was really cool…Did you smash your guitar or something? It was a huge statement. Dangerous,” he replied, with the energy of a thousand ‘your mum’ jokes. “If you gave it to someone who had something to say it might have changed someone’s life…It’s tough out there best of luck to you.”

Best of luck to you. Cester then proceeded to fight with numerous commenters underneath, insisting that he was “chill” about it all that it was all in good jest. We’re guessing he was one of the neckbeards lining up to criticise Bridgers for smashing her guitar at the end of her performance, which is clearly the first time in rock history that has ever happened.

You can see the fascinating exchange below. Bridgers has unfortunately not responded at the time of writing.
