Kanye West is on the cover of August issue of GQ and, in true Kanye style, provided an array of crazy musings on life including confirmation that he is not in fact a shark, but a blowfish.

It’s been seven years since West was last on the cover of GQ – back in 2007 he graced the magazine’s cover for the “Men of the Year” issue, and admitted to drawing inspiration from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and the Pussycat Dolls. But West has matured a lot (or not) since then, and this time he’s talking fatherhood, a new album, post-Yeezus success, what it’s like to become ‘Sad Kanye’ and of course, his marriage to little-known Kim Kardashian.

The interview took place a mere ten days after his wedding and is both baffling and intriguing, in a Kanye West sort of way. Here’s a few highlights for you to dissect.

He Likens Marriage To A Step Brothers Line

When asked by GQ writer Zach Baron why he decided to marry Kim Kardashian, the 37 year old’s response was so weird it was almost inconceivable: “Like they said in Step Brothers: Never lose your dinosaur. This is the ultimate example of a person never losing his dinosaur.

“Meaning that even as I grew in cultural awareness and respect and was put higher in the class system in some way for being this musician, I never lost my dinosaur.”

He went on about dinosaurs for a while. And in case you weren’t convinced of their chemistry and true love before, he confirmed: “Kim is this girl who fucking turns me on.” Yep: she’s his dinosaur.

He’s Advocating For Reformed Organised Labor Laws

Well, sort of. Baron took a bit of a risk and asked West about reports in Page Six which claimed West took a saw to the bar at his wedding and performed some last minute adjustments to it — by sawing it in half.

West noted the ‘cultural insignificance’ of the person who wrote the report (darn ‘journalists’) and said, “And anyone knows that you cannot pick up tools yourself, because of — what are those rules about the workers? … Yeah, unions. You can’t do that. It’s illegal. That’s false.”

“I’m Not A Shark, I’m A Blowfish”

This gem of a quote came when West responded to that TMZ video of him walking into a sign, and the complete rage mode he got into immediately afterwards.

“So that perfect example about me hitting my head, it’s like a blowfish. I wasn’t coming out of my house going to a paparazzi’s house to attack them. I’m defending my family in front of my own house. I’m defending my name as someone’s screaming something negative at me. That’s a blowfish.”

That’s a … surprisingly insightful analogy of the incident. Huh.

His Take On The Sad Kanye Meme

It should have been a time of happiness, but it looked anything but that. So the Internet decided to go to town on the photo of a dejected West during his vacation with Kim Kardashian, and Sad Kanye was born.

sadkanye

In the GQ interview, West was asked how he felt about it, and proved that Sad Kanye is indeed very sad. He responded with a simple, “My feeling don’t matter anymore” and went on to say that he was fighting for “the re-education of what celebrity is”. Cue boxing analogy.

“I’m sitting right here, it’s a fight. I’m fighting with the way I line my words up together and the way I place a sweater on top of a T-shirt. At this point, people know what’s up. People know I’m smart. And people know that, whether it’s SNL or Jimmy Kimmel, it’s a trend to take the piss out of celebrity — just as much of a trend as wearing a gray hoodie or driving a Prius.”

His ‘Smarty Friends’ Are No Match To Kim

In case you missed it a few months ago, the official Kimye wedding photo (released via Kim Kardashisan’s Instagram account) racked up a whopping 2.36 million likes – which is a big deal to West.

So why did this photo become the most liked photo on Instagram? West said, “It’s because of Kim. Meaning there’s no photo that I would have put up by myself, or next to one of my smarty friends, that would have got that amount of likes.”

He also reverted back to his well documented defensiveness when Baron said he himself didn’t know why. West said, “Don’t say you don’t know!”

Seems like Kanye West is still at his Kanye Best (sorry).
