Lin-Manuel Miranda is heading down where it’s wetter, with the creator of Hamilton set to collaborate with iconic Disney songwriter Alan Menkin on the music for a live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. According to Deadline, Miranda has inked a deal to create new music for the upcoming film, which will also feature a number of Menkin’s classic songs first heard in the 1989 animated original.

The Broadway star is by all accounts a big fan of the material, recently telling Rolling Stone “I’m here because The Little Mermaid fucked my shit up when I was nine, and I have never been the same since.” He also apparently named his firstborn son Sebastian after the singing crab from the film – which I’m sure the kid won’t come to resent at all.

The deal will make Miranda a regular feature at the House of the Mouse. He worked on their upcoming animated film Moana, and is set to co-star in an upcoming remake of Mary Poppins alongside Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep and Ben Wishaw. We know, we know…your childhood has been ruined.

Best guess puts The Little Mermaid in cinemas at some point in 2018 or 2019. Until then, you can watch Miranda belt out a selection of classic Disney songs over here.
