Lana Del Rey, retro-mermaid cosplay queen, is back on the airwaves with a brand-new single, “Love”. The song, her first solo release since 2015’s Honeymoon, is full ambient glam-pop madness and quite possibly Peak Lana Del Rey.

But what kind of song is “Love”? It’s the song of a woman who likes romance-danger and winged eyeliner. She wears her great-aunt’s hand-me-down fox-fur stole and plans to hitchhike along Route 66. She dreams of a kind of “love” that is pashing in a vat of rattlesnakes, or falling for a tram inspector while fare evading in Collingwood. Essentially, it’s just really nailing that Linda Lovelace negligee on the hood of a rusty hearse vibe.

A new release from the singer seemed likely to be on the cards since cinematic posters appeared in Los Angeles, emblazoned with Del Rey’s visage and the word “love”. Del Rey, who produced the song with longtime collaborator Rick Nowels, released the following statement about the song: “I made my first 4 albums for me, but this one is for my fans and about where I hope we are all headed.”

So far this reporter has listened to it on repeat like at least five times probably. Does it have anything to do with the fact that this reporter got dumped on Friday? Absolutely not, how dare you.
