The bad news: Margot Robbie did not win the Oscar for Best Actress. The good news: Frances McDormand won and used her acceptance speech to call for more diversity in Hollywood, as well as shouting out every other woman nominated for an award in 2018. Folks, this year’s Academy Awards finally got interesting!

Towards the end of a very snoozy 2018 ceremony, McDormand stood up to collect the Oscar for her performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. She cut to the chase as soon as she got on stage: “If I fall over pick me up, because I’ve got something to say”.

After an emotional thank you to her her family, McDormand bent down to place her Oscar on the stage.

“Now, I want to get some perspective,” she said.

“If I may be so honoured to have all the female nominees in all the categories to stand with me tonight. Meryl if you do it, everyone else will,” she said, as the camera cut to fellow nominee Meryl Streep.

“Look around, everyone. We all have stories to tell, and projects we need financed… invite us into your office in a couple of days, or you can come to ours, and we’ll tell you all about them.” Watch it below:

She signed off with a subtle call for greater diversity in an industry notoriously bad at representation. “I have two words to leave with you tonight: inclusion rider.”

It wasn’t quite as dramatic as last year’s Moonlight/La La Land mix-up, but it was still a pretty satisfying end to the 2018 Oscars. Onya, Frances.
