We’re still a couple of months out from the reveal of Laneway Festival’s 2018 line-up, but Father John Misty has gone and pretty much blown his spot on the bill.

During his show at Sydney’s Metro Theatre last night, Josh Tillman stopped for a quick audience Q&A session before launching into the encore. Between questions about his favourite TV show and where the afterparty is, one punter asked Tillman when he’d be back in Sydney. His answer? “February.”

With Laneway’s annual festival tour taking place between January and February each year, FJM’s spot on the bill is basically a sure thing.

That wasn’t the only good news Father John Misty had for Sydney: Tillman also told the crowd we can expect a new album from him as soon as “next year”. His third LP, Pure Comedy, arrived in April and was named one of 2017’s best albums so far by Music Junkee.

Father John Misty closed the GW McLennan Tent at Splendour in the Grass on Friday, and will play the final show of his current Australian tour at the Melbourne Recital Centre tonight.
