After weeks of watching Alec Baldwin take the piss out of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live, a lot of people have been curious as to how the producers would react to the Republican’s shock election win. It’s safe to say that I don’t think anyone expected them to take things in the direction that they did.

Baldwin himself took no part in proceedings – according to his publicist, he may very well be done with the role for good. In his absence, Kate McKinnon reprised her role as Hillary Clinton by herself. But rather than cracking jokes, she instead delivered a heartbreaking rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ by Leonard Cohen, who passed away earlier this week.

She concluded the performance by turning to the camera and telling viewers that “I’m not giving up, and neither should you.”
