Earlier this month the UK election came and went and honestly, nothing really changed. Despite enjoying a brief internet fandom due to the facts he had the public support of Russell Brand and his campaign material was almost identical to the seminal work of Eminem, Labour leader Ed Miliband was crushed in the polls as long-time conservative Prime Minister David Cameron was re-elected.

Miliband followed up this humiliating defeat by immediately resigning and a few days later Russell Brand released a video essentially backing out of the whole thing. Not only was he upset with the result, he regretted getting involved at all conceding he probably “fucked up the election” for the Labor leader.

Basically, it turned out to be a big ol’ mess — Russell Brand’s ego got the better of him and a big loveable schlub got his heart broken. But, because that all sounds mighty familiar, here’s our favourite video editor Huw Parkinson to explain things a little better:

FYI Miliband probably would have got more votes if he acted like this the whole campaign.
