He’s one of the most meticulous directors in the industry today. And yet somehow Christopher Nolan apparently had no idea how famous Harry Styles was before casting him in his latest film.

Nolan’s WWII epic Dunkirk hits cinemas next week on a tidal wave of hype – less because it’s the new movie from the guy who made The Dark Knight and Interstellar, and more because it stars one of the biggest musicians on the planet, a one Mr. Harry E. Styles.

Yet despite the box office bump that the One Direction singer will no doubt provide, Nolan claims that he wasn’t really aware of how famous Styles was when he hired him.

“I mean, my daughter had talked about him,” Nolan told the Associated Press. “My kids talked about him, but I wasn’t really that aware of it. So the truth is, I cast Harry because he fit the part wonderfully and truly earned a seat at the table.”

No offence Chris, but I’m calling bullshit on that one. Not that Styles isn’t a great actor – I’m happy to take you at your word on that. But are we honestly expected to believe you didn’t at least Google the guy? What kind of Inception-style mind games are you trying to pull here?
