Right-wing senator Cory Bernardi is currently locked in a bitter feud with some of Australia’s most well-known musicians after launching an “Australian Conservatives 100” playlist to protest triple j changing the date of the Hottest 100.

Yep, unfortunately everything in that sentence is 100 percent true. ‘Straya, what a time to be alive.

Bernardi’s playlist includes a lot of very strange choices for an arch-conservative who is deeply into the concept of Australia Day and deeply against the concept of social equality. His inclusion of artists like the very pro-equality Savage Garden and the very pro-treaty Yothu Yindi definitely raised eyebrows.

Darren Hayes, the leader singer of Savage Garden, and the Hilltop Hoods, who were also included on the playlist, have ripped into Bernardi on Twitter for associating their music with his political views.

But aside from Bernadi’s awful politics, and the fact they fact that they clash quite dramatically with the music he’s selected, the playlist kind of sucks. Sure, there are a few great tunes on it but there’s no cohesion. He goes from Dragon straight into Bernard Fanning, Custard pivots immediately to The Temper Trap. There’s too much Wolfmother, Advance Australia Fair and Iggy Azalea.

He didn’t even use the Vanessa Amorosi version of ‘Absolutely Everybody’.

So we’ve decided to help him out. We’ve put together our own playlist, just for Cory Bernardi. We think it sums him up pretty well, and we’ve even made it using entirely Australian music.

The playlist has been meticulously curated to capture different aspects of Bernardi’s personality and political approach. If you think we’ve left anything out, feel free to add your own recommendations in the comments.

Note: There are a lot of excellent TISM songs that really capture what Bernardi is all about, but unfortunately the band’s music is not on Spotify so we couldn’t include them on the playlist.
