The passing of David Bowie yesterday is just now being covered by various late-night shows in the US — Jimmy Fallon gave a brief, heartfelt farewell to the musician on The Tonight Show, while The Daily Show‘s Trevor Noah gave over the show’s ‘Moment of Zen’ segment to an old Bowie interview.

But a host who’s known Bowie far longer, Conan O’Brien, paid a different kind of tribute, praising his grace, sense of humour and personality before going back through old Late Show interviews the pair conducted over the years. The hair and outfits change (at least on Bowie’s side), but he remains a warm, funny and engaging figure throughout. It’s a fitting tribute to someone who spent their life in the spotlight.
