There’s a gorgeous new teaser for Marvel’s new teen-centred series, Cloak and Dagger, which sets the moody scene for our two magical heroes named… Cloak and Dagger.

It’s sometimes easy to forget that Marvel is developing a spree of shows outside of Netflix, including this latest series which is coming to US network Freeform later this year.

Cloak and Dagger is aimed at a younger audience than a lot of Marvel’s staple shows, such as Daredevil or Agents of Shield, and focuses entirely on the stories of its two teenage protagonists. Watch the promo below. It doesn’t give away much of the plot, but it does introduce us to our main characters:

The series, based on the comic of the same name, is set in post-Katrina New Orleans. It follows the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph), two teenagers who realise they have superpowers. Tandy has the ability to conjure up light daggers while Tyrone is able to teleport, which is cool. The story focuses on them meeting, discovering their powers and potential romance, and also delving in to the chance encounter they had as children years before.

Cloak and Dagger also strongly addresses the issue of representation, having both a female superhero and black male superhero as protagonists. In an interview with Teen Vogue, Olivia Holt talked about how important the story interacts with current issues.

“And the things they are going through are the things that are happening in this day and age. It really tells the story of what a white female is going through in 2018 and what a black young male is going through in 2018. We see these characters unfold into themselves in the most complex ways, and I feel as humans we connect to that.”

Cloak and Dagger comes to Freeform in June this year, but no word on an Australian release yet. Watch the main trailer here:
