Melbourne’s Nick Murphy has officially laid his former moniker Chet Faker to rest, surprise dropping a diverse new five-track EP called Missing Link.

“Chet Faker was me trying to prove something to myself”, said Murphy in a press release farewelling his old sound and attitude. “My tastes are pretty dynamic and I realised I’ve spent time resisting that. Now I want to put everything in. It’s not conceptual anymore. It’s just me, and it made sense to show that in a name. It feels like a rediscovery.”

Murphy premiered Kaytranada-produced single ‘Your Time’ overnight on Wednesday, before surprise dropping the full EP. Along with recent singles ‘Fear Less’ and ‘Stop me (Stop You)’, the new music showcases new sounds and styles for the Melbourne artist.

Missing Link marks his first official release as Nick Murphy (his real name), and his first new release since 2014’s full-length Built On Glass, released as Chet Faker.

Next month, Murphy will perform three shows at the Sydney Opera House for Vivid LIVE, following which he’ll embark on an international tour across the USA, UK and Europe.
