On Friday night, the large-lunged legend that is Céline Dion officially kicked off her Australian tour in Sydney.

The tour — Dion’s first in our country in a decade — is aiming to cover every inch of her significant discography, which spans over 30 years and includes classics like ‘My Heart Will Go On’, and ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love’.

But of course, Dion had to do something special to honour her first Australia show in 10 long years — so she decided to deliver a ball-breaking cover of John Farnham’s iconic 1986 track ‘You’re The Voice’.

Which — apart from anything else — is a pretty appropriate cover for someone who possesses vocal pipes roughly the size of the Opera House grand organ.

Dion was so overcome by the emotion of it all that she even messed up the opening, resulting in her waving her arms and insisting the band start over again.

“I’m sorry, can I stop it for a second?” she says to the crowd. “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. I’m so, so, so sorry. I’m too excited!”

“Like what if I sing this song for the first time in my life and I screw up the words,” she continued. “What if [John Farnham] is here? What if he’s like ‘Oh yeah right she’s loved me for 20 years and she doesn’t know a word of my song?’ Oh no.”

Thankfully, she got it right the second go around. Watch it all happen below.

Céline Dion’s Australian tour continues tonight in Brisbane, with shows in Perth and Melbourne to happen later in the week.
