Someone Has Created A Whole Pokedex Of Aussie Pokemon And They’re Absolutely Awesome
Gotta catch 'em all.
Do me a favour. Go to Google, right now, and search “how to nominate someone for Australian of the year.” Then follow the links and lodge a nomination for Melbourne artist Paul Robertson.
Why? Because this man, this national treasure, this divine creature who walks the earth in human form, just created 151 Australian-themed Pokémon. And they are fan-bloody-tastic.
Robertson’s Pokedex takes its inspirations from just about every true blue icon imaginable, from flora and fauna to beloved foodstuffs and items of clothing to legendary landmarks both natural and manmade. There’s Goonfish and Quokkadile and Akobra and Snagg and, perhaps my personal favourite, Lamintonne.
Robertson, for what it’s worth, was also one of the guys responsible for that absolutely amazing pixelated Simpsons couch gag. Come to think of it, let’s skip the award and just go ahead and make him ambassador to the UN.
