San Diego Comic-Con’s trailer haul has outdone itself: this year the bag of goodies includes a bunch of exciting new stories (like Aquaman and Shazam!) as well as a dose of old favourites (like Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, Godzilla, The Walking Dead and The Clone Wars)

Comic-Con, hosted at the San Diego Convention Centre, has established itself as host of the so-called nerd Superbowl — a weekend where big production labels drop first looks for their most anticipated films and TV shows.

We’ve rounded up the best ones.

Aquaman

Directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa as Aquaman, this DC Comic universe origin story looks darker than first expected. We’ll finally get a good look at Aquaman, after seeing him previously in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters

Who doesn’t love a cinematic rendition of Clair de Lune sounding off as an end-of-the-world montage is rolled? King of the Monsters, starring Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown, shows us that Godzilla is far from the only monster in town.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Jude Law’s young Dumbledore has a greater role to play in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, and we’ll get to indulge in a storyline that was hinted throughout the original Harry Potter novels and films: who is Grindelwald? What does he do? And how is he defeated?

Shazam!

This kooky new superhero film is very self-aware of its own genre — and from the trailer, it looks as though young foster kid Billy Batson takes some time to figure out the whole superhero business after a mysterious wizard grants him a lot of superpowers. In many ways, this could be DC’s answer to Deadpool.

The Walking Dead Season 9

Yum. Another season. To be released on October 7, it will be protagonist Rick Grimes’ last series — and it looks like the series will focus on efforts to set up a post-zombie civilisation.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

It’s back. Ten years after The Clone Wars first ran on Cartoon Network, 12 new episodes have been gifted to us.
