It's called 'Chat Ten, Looks Three', inspired by a number from 'A Chorus Line'. Such delightful dorks.

‘Dance Ten, Looks Three’ is a comical number from classic musical A Chorus Line, in which character Val Clarke tells the tale of her myriad audition failures. At the end of her tether trying for a role on Broadway, she swipes her dance card from the judge’s desk to see where she’s going wrong — and finds she scored ten marks for the dancing, but three for the looks. Plastic surgery ensues.

I’m explaining all this by way of introduction to ‘Chat Ten, Looks Three’: a brand new podcast whose preview was just uploaded to Soundcloud, featuring 7.30 anchor Leigh Sales and Kitchen Cabinet‘s Annabel Crabb. The podcast, which Sales says has nothing to do with the rumoured ABC show and is “just us mucking about for a few weeks“, will focus on books, arts, politics, and “whatever we’ve read this week, or other things we’ve been doing”.

“It’s also an excuse for Salesy to indulge her ridiculously close-to-the-surface obsession with musical theatre,” Crabb adds.

To get you warmed up for it, Sales and Crabb wrote their own rendition of the Chorus Line tune. Sales takes the lead accompanied by piano, with some backing interjections from Crabb. It begins around the 1:45 mark, and is as spectacular as it sounds.

According to Sales, the first full episode will (hopefully) be uploaded by tomorrow.

And for anyone who wants to sing along…

Sales:

Chat Ten, Looks Three;

Well it sure beats unemployment;

Chatting for our own enjoyment —

Crabb:

— Least they won’t care

About our bad hair.

Sales:

Chat Ten, Looks Three,

Give us a spin;

Can’t be that hard,

Pretend its Hansard,

In case your boss wanders in!

Crabb and Saaaaales,

Books and arts and polity —

Crabb:

— Slightly crappy quality…

Sales:

This ain’t mission creep —

Crabb:

— It’s just super-cheap!

Sales:

Crabb and Saaaaales,

Come and join us banging on,

Anything from canapes to criiiiiiiime.

Crabb and Sales

Won’t change your life;

We’ll juuuuuuust waaaaaaste tiiiiiiiiime.

And here’s the original song from the 1985 movie adaptation of A Chorus Line, starring Audrey Landers as Val Clarke.

For more Crabb and Sales, here’s one interviewing the other for The Saturday Paperaccompanied by some brilliant photos from Sahlan Hayes.
