True crime is a divisive genre of television, mostly because it’s hard to ignore the ethical implications of someone’s murder being exploited for entertainment. However every so often, like in the case of The People v. O.J. Simpson, telling these stories seems to raise some sort of cultural awareness of the original case. Review: ‘American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson’ Is Fascinating, Deeply Relevant TV

After American Crime Story‘s hugely successful first season (it recently won ten Emmys), there was a lot of pressure on Ryan Murphy to find an equally compelling story — and a lot of confusion when he said that season two would focus on the criminal investigations following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. We can only hope that this gets a look in:

Now it has been announced that season three of American Crime Story will be filmed back-to-back with season two, and that it will focus on the 1997 assassination of fashion designer Gianni Versace by serial killer, Andrew Cunanan. Police never discovered why Versace was targeted. This story, which is set in the glamorous fashion world of ’90s Miami, seems perfect for Ryan Murphy’s camp sensibilities.

The series probably won’t air until 2017 or 2018, but I sincerely hope that Sarah Paulson will be playing Donatella Versace.
