Ah Gilmore Girls – that show we’ve all flicked on during a lazy Wednesday afternoon at home because we were sick/bored/skipping school. Little did we know that the characters were going to be so relevant when we grew older.

Looking back at Lorelai, Rory, and friends there’s a number of ways the show absolutely nailed life. Here’s just a few.

Uni Flings Are As Awkward As Rory’s Relationships

Whether you’re struggling to make small talk with your crush on campus or trying to wrangle in your feelings to focus on getting those HDs, Rory embodies the emotional cringe of uni relationships.

Just like that time you spotted a hottie on campus and decided to take a snap and send it to your BFF instead of going up to them, Rory also struggles with being direct.

Struggling with your feelings when transitioning from high school flings to adult relationships is pretty awkward like not knowing when to say “I love the car” or “I love you, you idiot”.

You’re As Jaded And As Cynical As Luke

It isn’t easy to make the connection between a diner and uni (besides copious amounts of coffee), but good ol’ Luke makes it simple.

When you get buddied up with your classmates for an awful group assignment, you’ll feel just at home stewing in your angry juices. You’ll most likely be dropping complaints about campus and uni life in general similar to Luke’s stifled aggression towards Stars Hollow.

You’re 100 Per Cent Dependent On Coffee

Luke’s diner always had the gals covered when they needed their caffeine fix. It may not seem important, but to the average uni student looking to kick-start their brain before 11am, coffee is life.

Like Lorelai, you probably have a few ideas about how to consume it; you can drink it, inhale it, and you may even consider pumping it directly into action through an IV. In other words, you’re totally addicted to coffee.

Like Lorelai, You’re An A-class Bullshit Artist

Yes, this is the most important skill when busting out an essay at 3am on the due date. Classic Lorelai was an absolute queen when it came to the art of making it up on the spot. Over time, just like Lorelai, your ability to push out absolute nonsense will improve and save you from personal and academic downfall.

You Eat Junk Food Out Of Both Convenience And Deliciousness

Not only does Rory illustrate the struggle that is balancing study and surviving life in general, but she also shows us how we should be combatting it. Yes, we’re talking about the classic stress eat.

Cooking healthy food takes a lot more effort than ordering takeout – especially if it happens to be an assessment period when you’re most likely to be wallowing in stress. A good stress eat should help settle everything down when it feels like the walls are caving in.

You Want A Decent Relationship With Your Parents, But Want Them To Back Off At The Same Time

Learning to #adult is hard -you’re stuck between being dependent on your parents and wishing they’d stop nagging you to separate your washing by colour. Colours run, Mum. I know! These feels are best explained by the Rory-Lorelai-Emily dynamic.

That Time Lane Kim Was Every Uni Student Eve

That’s pretty much it. Everything Lane does is so relevant, except for the musical talent of course.
Come Exam Time, You Get Your Study, Study, Study On

As frustrating as it was to see Rory study every five minutes (because we all know that’s fake AF), we know this is the harsh reality come exam time. However, it has to be done if you’re trying to salvage your semester or keep up your good grades.

You’re Endlessly Frustrated With Your Timetable

We’ve all been there – you set up the perfect uni timetable and then it’s scaled up with classes at stupid times. Frustration overload. Like Lorelai, you’re flexible up until the point something doesn’t go your way and then it’s all hands to panic stations.
