10 Indie Rock Songs You Can Trick Kids Into Thinking Are From ‘Frozen’

I was at kid’s birthday party recently, and of course ‘Let It Go’ from Frozen got a blaring airing, sending most of the children into a frenzy. Nearly a year after first hitting theatres, Frozen doesn’t seem to be going away – and neither is its maddeningly catchy power ballad, or the rest of that ultra-earnest soundtrack. After topping the ARIA charts in May, ‘Let It Go’ has spent 31 weeks so far in the top 50; the album went double Platinum in Australia, and the lead single has been appropriated by everyone from Pearl Jam to The Roots, as the movie continues to sink its icy talons deeper and deeper into pop culture.

Like everyone else, I left the party with ‘Let It Go’ stuck in my head. Then, by happy accident, it segued into a Superchunk song that doesn’t really sound anything like it. Which got me thinking: what if I could convince my kids that a whole bunch of indie rock songs I actually like are also from Frozen? Granted, my kids are both under the age of five, and neither of them is super into Frozen yet. But if I could get them humming Pavement or Real Estate instead of Idina Menzel or Demi Lovato, that’s one hell of a pre-emptive strike.
