Why Mid-Week Gold Coast Getaways Are A Vibe

How, and I repeat HOW, are we only weeks into 2024 and I’ve already had enough? Was it the excessive New Year’s Eve partying and subsequent 48-hour hangover (most likely), or do I just really, really need a holiday?

I’m gonna go with the latter. See, I just can’t stop daydreaming about fleeing the daily grind, but even just thinking about trying to “squeeze” in a relaxing break between Friday clock-off and 9am on Monday morning is giving me hives. Enter the mid-week escape or as the Gold Coast likes to call it, the “sneeky mid-weeky”.

With a fresh new year offering up a whole new stack of annual leave, I can’t imagine anything better than treating myself to a post-festive season mid-week break. Because if there’s anything better than being on holiday, it’s being on holiday while all my less-fortunate mates are still stuck at work (sorry, guys). Why wait til the weekend, when the weekdays can be just as adventurous?

And what better place to lose myself for a refresh and reset than the Gold Coast — with its endless exciting things to do and places to see that’ll have me, I’m sure, contemplating upending my entire life and moving here for good pretty much as soon as I unpack. Here’s my suggested Gold Coast hit list, if you’re also in the market for a mid-week getaway.

Activities That’ll Make Your Pals Jealous

Hot air ballooning: Tick off that bucket list item with an unforgettable flight over the Gold Coast in a hot air balloon. A one-hour sunrise flight will give you enough content to keep those FOMO vibes going all year long.

Jet Ski Safaris: You’re going to want to hold on tight with the Gold Coast’s exhilarating jet ski tours set to thrill visitors. Experience the adrenaline-fueled twists and turns that’ll make you scream and potentially cop a face of water.

Stuff That’ll Relieve Burnout

The Bathhouse at Ground: Set in an eco-village among the rainforest, you’ll find a tranquil haven with a plunge pool, wood-fired hot stone sauna and traditional cedar hot tub. I can almost guarantee you’ll never want to leave The Bathhouse at Ground, because nothing awakens the senses like spending 1 hour in an ice bath, or softens the soul like a wood-fired sauna.

Eden Health Retreat: If it’s a five-star luxury experience you’re after, pack your bags and flee to Eden Health Retreat in the breathtaking Gold Coast hinterland. Receive a personalised health and wellness program and enjoy a stunning range of powerful healing therapies and beauty treatments.

Things That’ll Make You Feel Like The Main Character

Froggies Beach: Want that deserted island feeling without, you know, the literal stranding? Jump on over to Froggies Beach in Coolangatta and find ‘island’ paradise. With crystal-clear waters, gorgeous rock pools and a stretch of sand all to yourself, you’ll be swooning in no time.

Tiny Wild Houses at Binna Burra: Ready to get cosy? Wake up to breathtaking views over Lamington National Park through a full-sized glass wall providing stunning vistas of the Ships Stern Range from the comfort of your queen bed.

Somewhere To Feel Fancy At

qtQT: A tropical break in the heart of Surfers Paradise? Sign me up. qtQT is the Gold Coast’s newest open-air sanctuary to “unplug and unwind” that’ll really give you the space to find your zen — or a cocktail by the pool.

Food You’ll Inhale

Franc Jrs: Utter the words ‘cult pizza’ and any good Gold Coaster will point you in the direction of Franc Jrs. There are now two of these beloved pizza joints courtesy of the very recent opening in Nobby Beach, alongside the Coolangatta staple. The only phrase you’ll need to know: Sicilian Detroit style pizzas. And don’t hold back.

Rick Shores: All it took was one Insta post of this ocean-side eatery and I was sold immediately! Boasting epic views over Burleigh Heads and a pan-Asian menu with all the flavours of Vietnam, Thailand and beyond, mixed in with fresh, locally sourced produce, you’d be a fool to skip out on this restaurant!

Ready to enter 2024 as the main character? A ‘Sneeky Mid-Weeky’ trip to the Gold Coast is the only way to play it.
