"Australia is a hot desert island at the ends of the earth in which little hip-hop culture exists."

Earlier this year, rap superstars Kendrick Lamar and Future teamed up at Coachella for a performance of Future’s chart-topping single, ‘Mask Off’. Turns out it wasn’t a one-off: an official remix of the track just dropped and it features a new guest verse from Kendrick.

Which is particularly exciting for fans Down Under, because between dropping lines about his new album’s runaway success, the Compton rapper threw in one teensy, tiny reference to Australia.

It goes like this: “Half of y’all might need help/I might fall in Rodeo/I might ball in Australia/I might call her for real.” Does this mean we’ve made it?

But more amusing than the reference is how lyric annotation website Genius have interpreted it.

In their words: “Australia is a hot desert island at the ends of the earth in which little hip-hop culture exists. Kendrick boasts about his ambition and skill so much so that he will conquer even that godforsaken land.”

Which is… actually a little insulting. Listen to the full remix below.
