Hottest 100 day is fast approaching, but if you haven’t quite got your fill of vote-based song rankings, fear not — the folks at triple j have today announced that the station will be running a Hottest 100 of the decade.

Yep, not content to find the biggest song of 2019, triple j is now searching for the biggest song of an entire decade. Which is no mean feat — don’t forget, the 2010s spawned everything from Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Humble’ to Lana Del Rey’s ‘Video Games’.

triple j has hosted massive rankings like this in the past, of course. Twice in its history, the station has run a Hottest 100 of all time list — both editions of the poll were memorably topped by Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ — and in 2013, it hosted a poll to find the best song of the last 20 years.

But the biggest song of the decade is a, uh, big deal, particularly now that the Hottest 100 itself is bigger than it has ever been before.

Probably time to start guessing what’ll top the poll then. A safe bet would be a song that’s taken out the Hottest 100 already — could it be the Donald Glover’s ‘This Is America’ will nab the coveted accolade? ‘Humble’? Guess we’ll have to wait and find out.

The Hottest 100 of the Decade will take place in March — the exact date doesn’t appear to have been specified yet — with voting open throughout February.
