In 2004 Brad Pitt met Angelina Jolie during the filming of Mr and Mrs Smith and, by his own admission, Pitt “fell in love”. Though he denies the rumours of infidelity, this ultimately led to his divorce from Jennifer Aniston the following year. By the time the movie came out, Pitt and Jolie were all but a fully-fledged couple.

The film, an action comedy about married spies, is now a controversial pop cultural relic — one that directly fuelled the Team Jen v Brangelina narrative which plagued all involved (especially the women) to this day.

WHAT IS REALITY!?

Now, just hours after news has broken about Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s impending divorce, we have a new trailer for Allied. The film, Brad Pitt’s latest, sees him star alongside Marion Cotillard as a spy during the second world war. While planning an attack against a Nazi official, the pair of assassins fall in love.

This isn’t the first trailer for the film. It’s not the first we’ve heard of it. But it sure is a savage thing to see in this moment.

There are a few trashy reports floating around of Jolie allegedly hiring a private investigator because she thought Pitt was cheating on her with someone on the Allied set. Others claim she ignored Cotillard because she was ~”so jealous”~ (honestly, it’s not worth a link). But there’s nothing to suggest Pitt has any kind of relationship with the star off-screen. Cotillard has also been with French actor and director Guillaume Canet since 2007 and the couple have a son together.

Long story short: I think the marketing team may have known exactly what they were doing.
