You have to hand it to those geniuses on TikTok — they sure know how to make a cover version their own.

Over the last six months or so, a new trend has emerged on the social media app, seeing young musicians taking a well-known song and rewriting it in the style of a different, equally well-known musician.

Just look at the back catalogue of Towa Bird to see how this can pay off, a shredding queen who takes some of the biggest songs of the last 40 years and terms them into rock-and-roll ballads.

Now, however, the trend has reached something of a high point, as musician Ethan Fields has reworked ‘The Less I Know The Better’ by Tame Impala in the style of a lascivious Prince banger.

Better yet, in his TikTok video, the young star has provided a breakdown of just how he made the transformation. Starting with some very horny keyboard riffs, building up to a bouncy bassline, Fields takes one of the best pop ditties of the last little while and makes it sexier, stranger, and more distinct.

Basically, the whole video is a work of great, strange art, and you should watch it in full here:
