Scotland’s voting on independence today, and a whole lot of people in Europe are very jealous — there are literally dozens of separatist movements in Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Germany and elsewhere who are hoping like hell that Scotland votes ‘Yes’ and sets a precedent for a breakaway republic to join the European Union.

The European Free Alliance, a coalition of these groups, has put together a pretty groovy interactive map of all the places in Europe that would like to be their own countries — Catalonia, Bayern, Flanders — and they are goddamn everywhere. Pretty much half of Europe wants to split off and do its own thing. It’s a pretty neat reminder that Europe as we know it only really came together at the end of the Second World War, and that the borders we’re so used to might not be as fixed as we assume.
