The Simpsons may be the longest running scripted, prime time show in history, but it’s not done yet. A second Simpsons movie is in the works, even as Fox faces an uncertain future ahead of its merger with Disney.

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier in the week that there is a second Simpsons film, jointly created by Disney and Fox. 20th Century Fox is currently separating with the rest of the Fox network (which includes the Fox News corporation over in the US), and will merge with Disney. The merger is worth a whopping $71 billion.

There were doubts that Disney would want to continue airing The Simpsons, which is currently in its 30th season.

But Fox CEO Dana Walden has been quick to relax fans.

“The Simpsons is so much a part of the brand, there’s been such an incredible halo effect of that show and the other animated series that are on,” she said on a recent press tour. “There are no plans for them to go anywhere other than Fox.”

The first Simpsons movie earned more than $500 million in cinemas.

Fox is also reportedly working on a Family Guy movie that will be part animation and part live action.

A Bob’s Burgers film is also in the works.
