It’s fair to say that some of the best Like A Versions of any calendar year come out of the month of November, as triple j’s Aus Music Month sees local legends covering local legends and today’s newy is no exception thanks to dance music overlords The Presets.

Jules and Kim hit up the JJJ studios this morning for a run-through of their own tune ‘Feel Alone’ (with a bit of 2004 hit ‘Girl And The Sea’ mixed in for good measure) as well as to take on a cover, and they went big with an updated take on classic Midnight Oil tune ‘Power and the Passion’.

The Sydney duo not only knock the cover out of the fucking park, but have subtly updated a few of the lyrics of the politically inclined original, for example changing a reference to Gough Whitlam to Malcolm Turnbull.

It’s subtle but the classic lyrics of “‘Cause Gough was tough till he hit the rough/Uncle Sam and John were quite enough” becomes “Cause Mal was tough till he hit the rough/those right-wing thugs were quite enough”. Keep an ear out for a sneaky Snapchat reference as well.

Catch both of the tunes below, and pray for whatever triple j digital producer accidentally labelled the song as Beds are Burning before hastily taking it down this morning after five mins. Go easy on them Kingsmill.

Mistakes, we’ve made a few.
