The good folks at Honest Trailers are back, talking truth to power via the form of satirical film trailers, and this time they’ve set their target on Star Wars: The Last Jedi — or more specifically, their salty fans.
Rian Johnson’s latest instalment of the blockbuster Star Wars franchise, The Last Jedi, was massively and memorably polarising. People loved it or thought it literally shat on their entire childhoods. Never before has a Star Wars film poked the nerd hive so drastically.
As they say in the trailer, “The only way to talk about Star Wars now is in absolutes” and “Rian Johnson ruined my childhood like he ruined the laws of space battle.”
While many people found The Last Jedi a refreshing palate cleanser, others found its departure from the very specific tone of the The Force Awakens confusing and upsetting. As the Honest Trailer highlights, this has mostly manifested as attacks on director Rian Johnson.
