Having spent $200,000 for photos of the James Packer and David Gyngell streetside brawl, it makes sense News Limited would want to get their best staffers on the headline job. And they did not disappoint.

‘Billion Dollar Biffo’ screamed The Herald Sun‘James Whacker’ quipped The Courier Mail. ‘Packin’ A Punch’ punned The Mercury

But the best headline of the day — the one that made Karl Stefanovic crack up — came from the NT News: ‘Why I’ve Got A Packer Up My Clacker’.

NT News has been around since 1952, and in that time have built a reputation as the best in the biz when it comes to LOL-worthy headlines. In 2012, Paul Dwyer of NT News was nominated for a Walkley Award for the Three Best Headlines category. After taking home the prize, Crikey said the award was “thoroughly deserved … The ‘Why I Stuck A Cracker Up My Clacker’ headline was a thing of beauty.”

Yep, that’s right: yesterday’s paper was an ode to an old favourite.
