The thing about romantic comedies is that they are better than any other type of film. Sorry, we don’t make the rules, it’s just medical science.

What exactly makes the humble rom-com so wonderful? Is it because the most human stories are about the eternal and frustrating search for love? Is it because romance makes us do inherently funny things? Is it because they are a great vehicle for Hugh Grant?

It could be because even at their worst, romantic comedies are kinda amazing. There’s nothing more comforting than sitting down and just watching a movie that, you know, isn’t great but you still kinda absolutely love?

Twitter user and EW correspondent Dana Schwartz decided to crowd-source what everyone’s favourite “terrible” rom-coms.

“I don’t want your The Holidays Or Bridget Jonseses,” she clarifies. “I’m talking LEAP DAY, THE DECOY BRIDE. MADE OF HONOR.”

A few clear winners for the rather tainted crown of best worst rom-com quickly made themselves known. Amongst them is the classic Katherine Heigl vehicle 27 Dresses. There’s also  How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days with Matthew McConaghey and Kate Hudson, and the wonderful Keeping The Faith with the dream team of Jenna Elfman and Ben Stiller.

Going through the list there’s an exciting and somewhat dismaying number of… let’s call them “fan favourites” and it’s worth making a note because they sound amazing.
