No joke: going without Stranger Things this year has been extraordinarily tough. We had things so good for a little while there – we got season one and season two a mere 15 months apart, after all. But that’s only made the agonising wait for season three that much harder to take.

Well, at least we can now all be thankful that 2018 won’t go by without some a significant new update on the fate of Eleven and her mates. The Stranger Things Twitter account has dropped a teaser for the show’s third season, and, although it’s admittedly pretty light on info, it does at least contain a few nice clues that those geniuses over at the Stranger Things Reddit have already got to work decoding.

Watch the video below, then let’s talk after, shall we?

So! Here’s what we know.

For a start, it looks like the show is going back to an eight-episode season, like the first one. That might initially seem disheartening, given we were spoiled with a bumper nine-episode second season. But maybe that’s not so much of a problem. After all, the second season did sometimes feel a little bit overpadded (‘The Lost Sister’, anyone?).

Also, it’s worth remembering fewer episodes might mean a higher budget for each. So: good stuff might be on the horizon!

Secondly, a lot of the episode titles seem very-mall centric. Episode two is titled ‘The Mall Rats’, and the finale, episode eight, is ‘The Battle of Starcourt.’ That all ties in nicely with a teaser set at Starcourt that dropped earlier this year, and the rumours swirling around that the third season is going to use George A. Romero’s all-time masterwork Dawn Of The Dead as a significant reference point.

Finally, although the teaser says the third season is coming merely “in 2019”, does anyone get the strong sense that maybe we’ll get a Summer 2019 release? The third season is, after all, going to be set in the Summer: maybe it wouldn’t be so foolish to expect a surprise drop earlier rather than later in the year? Our fingers are extremely crossed.
