The royals content simply can’t stop, won’t stop. Just days after Netflix’s The Crown swept the Emmys, the official trailer for the upcoming Princess Diana film, Spencer, has landed.

Directed by Jackie and Ema filmmaker Pablo Larrain, the film stars Kristen Stewart in the main role. Spencer is loosely based on the truth — focusing on an imagined holiday period at Sandringham Castle a short time before her marriage to Prince Charles finally breaks down. It’s an icy affair, to say the least.

“There’s no hope for me,” Diana says at one point in the trailer, Stewart nailing her light, clipped accent. “Not with them.”

Early reviews of the film are wildly positive — Time Out called Stewart’s performance “extraordinary”. Sally Hawkins, who you might know from her fish-loving days in The Shape Of Water, is in the cast as Maggie, alongside Timothy Spall, Sean Harris, and Jack Farthing as Prince Charles.

Spencer will land in Australian cinemas on January 26, 2022, a couple of months after the US release. Watch the full trailer below.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Elizabeth Debicki will soon be making her debut as Princess Diana in the upcoming fifth season of The Crown. She’s taking over from Emma Corrin, who missed out on the leading actress Emmy on Monday — her co-star Olivia Colman snagged that one for her performance as the Queen.
