Byron Bay’s surf-rock band Skegss are about head overseas, but dropped into triple j this morning to leave us with a goodbye present — a stunning ‘Like A Version’ of a classic from The Pixies.

‘Here Comes Your Man’ is a huge track to cover, and the band stay pretty faithful to the original while still Skeggs-ifying it. That means some a quicker tempo and some trademark yelps and screamed vocals from frontman Ben Reed — they’re small changes, but suit the song well.

As does the little nod at the start of the song to The Velvet Underground’s classic ‘Waiting For My Man’, with the band playing a mini-verse before segueing into The Pixies’ hit.

The band also played through ‘Road Trip’, a highlight from their debut album, Up In The Clouds, enlisting Alex The Astronaut on acoustic guitar and for a bit of a sing-along.

While the boys are about to embark on a world tour, they’ll be back in town this June/July before heading off again, with stops in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Hobart, Mackay and Adelaide. Hopefully this cover makes the setlist. Watch both performances below.
